I actually broke my habit of biting my nails in college. I figured out that the main reason I bit my nails was because I was trying to get rid of rough spots or jagged edges. So I started paying more attention to my nails' condition, first by checking them in the mornings before classes or work, and later by carrying a nail file with me and smoothing edges throughout the day. Basically I trained myself to reach for a nail file first, instead of biting. It worked for me!
